Message don't know about you but my car redlines at 7k ;)

You probably know this but, if you shift at 7k in first gear you will then be at

4209 rpm in 2nd gear
4715 rpm in 3rd gear
5385 rpm in 4th gear
5250 rpm in 5th gear

Pretty much the powerband is 5000-7000 rpm. If you look at dyno charts of most Z's, at 5252 rpm the torque takes a nose dive, and horsepower holds out well until about 6500 or a little later, and then dives down. Most 300ZXs seem to make about the same numbers for Horsepower and torque (like 500rwhp and 500 lbs/tq), usually HP is a little higher but not always.

I like this about the VG30DETT, it has a wide powerband and makes good numbers for both HP and torque. I prefer this to other cars I have driven; like chevy 5.7L LT1 or 302 Ford motor which both (stock) have more torque than horsepower and at lower rpm (good for burnouts though), or in contrast a Vtec honda B18c1 which has to be revved high and doesn't make peak horsepower until 7500rpm or later.

The VG30DETT is a nice well rounded motor that revs fairly high but still makes decent low end torque.

Of course modifications like big cams, different turbos or alterations in the motors displacement can all affect what rpm the motor makes power.

Lights for beginners: Red = Stop. Green = Go. Amber = Go faster. Blue = Warp factor 10
